What Should You Eat for a Healthy Body?

  • Jun 4, 2008

The fast life and the busy schedule forces people to eat exactly what we should avoid the most. Fast food, fried snacks like (French fries, potato chips, and other salty snacks rich of fats and carbohydrates) and excess intake of sweetened beverages like tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks. Mostly people rely on processed ready to eat food that includes fatty acids, the main producer of toxins. Whereas the regular wholegrain cereals, natural fruits, fresh juices and green vegetables are rich in nutrients and antioxidants which can make our body relax and detoxified.

Strict Food Habit

Along with this regular change in eating habits, one needs to regularize his/her meals. Strictly accepting a regular, healthy and nutritious food pattern is always helpful in being fit and healthy. This food pattern varies according to the age of people. A food pattern which is ideal for people aged 20 to 30 years cannot be suitable for an elder people of 50-60 years.

Ideal Diet Patterns

One of the most mandatory things for every human being is to accept an ideal diet pattern, which should be adopted on a permanent basis. One should start the day with herbal tea and fruits, followed by a healthy and comparatively a heavy breakfast, because there is longest time interval between your dinner and breakfast and after a long sleep your body needs sufficient amount of energy which is possible only by a perfect breakfast full of all nutrients required for body. Between your breakfast and lunch you can have some fresh fruits (avoid fruit juices because that way you loose most important fibers for your body), and then a light lunch comprised of two-three chapattis a little bit of rice and pulses (they provide proteins for body) and one or two pieces of chicken or fish. In evening you can take some drinks link skimmed milk or chocolate milk. At last, you should have a light dinner at least 2-3 hours before going to bed. Avoid heavy dinner that consist too much oily or fried food. Before going to bed for sleep have a glass of semi hot milk.

This is the best diet pattern one should adopt. This pattern is applicable to people of all age group with a little modification according to the age group and specific requirement of body, because the needs of a human being change according to time.

Proper Weight Loss Diet and Nutrition

  • Apr 30, 2008

Dieting is a very complex process if not taken care of properly, else its very easy to do if you are really sincere and dedicated towards losing your weight. Two most important things are proper diet during dieting process and regular exercises. That includes all required things for a balanced body with all required nutritious elements.

Dieting Misconceptions

People often believe that dieting means taking less food than needed for a normal human being and it really helps in loosing weight. Whereas the truth is different, starving yourself for a long time is not dieting. If you are doing so, then you are unnecessarily creating one more reason and excuse of taking more food than general that means you are going to make urself a victim of emotional eating.

Well, proper diet during your dieting process should contain sufficient amount of proteins, vitamins, and minerals to provide enough fuel to your body. But avoild having oily and spicy food, even nuts and dry fruits should be avoided. Remember on thing, that dieting plans and suggested diet can vary person to person. Therefore consult an expert nutritionist or dietician, they will suggest you the best diet plan suitable for you.

One very important thing is that, never skip your breakfast because it is very much important for your whole body. After dinner there is a big gap between your meals and when you skip your breakfast, its really like a punishment to your body. So, its better to start your day with breakfast, even if its biscuits, or few slices of bread and butter or some fruits.

Other important thing is your regular workout. Never skip your excercise. even if its only a 15 minutes quickie advised by physio or your dietician. Skipping your exercise can be harlful for you, and it can be a reason of failure of your dieting program. Some special exercises are specially for losing extra flesh from your body only. Make a habbit of regular exercise, it can be anything from morning and evening walking, aerobics, weight training, walking the dog, or anything that requires some movement.

Risk Factors of Obesity

  • Apr 21, 2008
  • Post a comment

In a world where media and societal mores hold beauty and fitness to high standards, an overweight person can feel depressed, left out, and suffer low self-worth. Television and fashion magazines bombard us with pictures of reed-thin models and actresses and athletes with washboard abs, glamorizing certain impossible ideals to a point that a normal person is destined to feel inadequate. One can imagine how an overweight or morbidly obese person must feel to be exposed to this environment.

Aside from emotional factors that come into play, obesity brings with it various health risks that must be addressed first.

Low Mortality Rate

The Center for Disease Control attributes 300,000 deaths in the US annually to obesity-related illnesses. People with a BMI of 30 or above suffer a 50-100% increased risk of premature death from illness as opposed to people at normal weight levels.

Arthritis

As a person gains weight, the pressure in the body to carry the extra load increases. As a result, overweight people suffer an increased risk of pain in the joints, in particular osteoarthritis - which affects the knees, hips and back.

Heart Disease

As high blood pressure is more common among overweight people than people at normal weight levels, so increases the risk for heart disease. Instances of high triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol as found in obese patient can increase the chances for heart attack, angina, and congestive heart failure.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT, is characterized by a clot in the leg veins that forms after a prolonged period of inactivity. While DVT is common among people confined to wheelchairs and business travelers who sit for long commercial flights, DVT can present a problem for the obese. Immobility plays a large factor.

Stroke

Obesity is often associated with inactivity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, the same conditions which may cause blood clots to form in the arteries. These clots in turn slow blood flow to the heart and cause strokes.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition where a person will stop breathing while asleep. As excess fat crowding air passageways leads to this condition, obese patients often suffer sleep apnea. Lack of blood flow to the body during sleep can contribute to drowsiness during the day, headaches, and a host of other problems.

Type 2 Diabetes

Commonly known as adult onset diabetes, Type-II diabetes is thought to be caused by the body’s gradual inability to use insulin. Prolonged inactivity, obesity, and age are common factors in the increasing risk of onset diabetes. As a person gains an inordinate amount of weight, blood sugar levels can fluctuate out of control and lead to serious imbalances.

Reduce the risks associated with obesity

It’s as simple as this: the more excess weight you lose, the better your risks of serious illness will decrease. An exceptional loss of weight can be the difference between having to have surgery for arthritis or dealing with minor physical therapy. First, though, you have to lose the weight. Consult with a physician with regards to the weight loss program that is right for you, and don’t feel frustrated about the length of time it takes to be well. Losing weight doesn’t happen overnight, and with steady determination you will see results.

Diet – Does It Really Helps in Losing Weight

  • Apr 11, 2008
  • Post a comment

What is a diet? Does a diet really help you lose weight? Are they healthy? People today get confused when they hear the word “diet”. They usually think that it always applies to some special plan of eating which is intended to help people lose weight.

Doctors prepare lists of foods intended to accomplish some goal other than weight loss, and the word would be applied to that list of foods. Today the word has come to mean a special list of foods you can or cannot eat if you wish to lose weight. Many of these have achieved almost mystical status and many have their own followings. Just witness how far the Atkins and South Beach Diets have extended themselves in our society. I am sure you remember such exciting diets as those centered on specific foods which practically guaranteed weight loss success - You could eat grapefruit, cabbage soup, or you could enjoy the promised effects of the negative calorie diet. Most have these have faded away for three basic reasons :

  • People got tired of eating the same thing meal after meal.
  • They were unrealistic in their expectations. How could you get cabbage soup when on vacation, or at a business luncheon.
  • Most of the time, they simply didn’t work.

While “going on a diet” for a short period may produce a small loss for some people, dieting is simply not the answer to a lifelong weight loss problem. If you are just a few pounds overweight and want to drop a few dress sizes by the wedding in two weeks, a diet just might do the trick, and, for that short time, you will probably be able to stick with it as long as you keep your goal in sight.

The downside of a diet is threefold :

  • The effects are not permanent or life changing
  • It does not contribute to health and vitality
  • It may actually contribute to weight gain
  • True, permanent weight loss for health and fitness hinges on three central points:
  • Regular physical activity
  • Periods of rest
  • A sensible diet

When you diet realize that for your health and for permanent weight loss, you must do more. If you do choose to go on a diet, please take a daily multivitamin to help replace the nutrients you are missing.
